Special court in Mumbai remanded Dr. Hany Babu, Associate Professor of Delhi University who was arrested on July 28 at his residence in New Delhi in connection with the Elgar Parishad case.

NIA had earlier submitted in the special court that Prof. Hany Babu Musaliyarveettil Tharayil has links with CPI(Maoists) and one banned armed group in Manipur.

Last year Pune police raided his house and confiscated his laptop, books, mobile phone and hard disk.

The case relates to the alleged inflammatory speeches made at the Elgar Parishad conclave held in Pune on December 31, 2017, which the police claimed triggered violence the next day near the Koregaon-Bhima war memorial located on the outskirts of the western Maharashtra city.

The Pune police filed a charge sheet and a supplementary charge sheet in the case on November 15, 2018 and February 21, 2019, respectively.

The NIA took up the investigation in the case on January 24 this year.

The other activists who were arrested in connection with Bhima Koregaon case is Sudha Bharadwaj, Varavara Rao, Rona Wilson, Sudhir Dhawale, Rona Wilson, Shoma Sen, Mahesh Raut, Arun Ferreira, Surendra Gadling, Gautham Navalakha and Vernon Gonsalves.
